Marco van
Grinsven of van Grinsven Crane Hire and Transport BV approached Broshuis with a
special request. If Broshuis was interested to develop and produce a platform
trailer suitable for a 50 ton / meter rolling crane.
This trailer
would have to be suitable to transport 3 metre high ‘portacabins’, and also long
length loads up to 22 metres of steel, concrete and PVC etc. A trailer should be
as functional as possible.
Knowledge and
experience versus development and innovation
In the past
Broshuis has manufactured various extendible platform trailers with a floor
height of 1.150mm. However in combination with a 50 t/m rolling crane, with
different stresses on the cross members and the central main beam was completely
new. Naturally we gladly accepted the order and it would be a challenge for our
engineering department. First of all smaller tyres (235/75 R17.5” in stead of
275/70 R22.5”) are fitted to improve the platform height.
Then we used
different types of steel with a greater tensile strength in combination with
special constructed (low) cross members. Normally one would use high cross
members and central main beam to create sufficient rigidity in the chassis, but
this was not an option due to the required platform height of 1.150mm.
The platform
height of 1.150mm is essential due to obtaining a dispensation in Holland unto a
height of 4.15m (3 + 1.15m).
Cooperation
The trailer was
delivered in June 2007 to Kluitmans in Budel (NL) for the fitting of a Kennis
crane and ‘operational test’. The trailer was tested to 125% over load and
passed with flying colours. This was also noted by Marco Van Grinsven, who was
very pleased by the cooperation with his company, Kluitmans and Broshuis.
The experience
that Broshuis has achieved with the design, manufacture and testing of this
extendible platform trailer with a heavy crane profile has led to various follow
on orders.
Once again a
customer wish is completed to full satisfaction.
