Trailers for heavy work
At the family-run company Hermann Dallmann Straßen und Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG, reliability and craftsmanship come first. To further expand their transport capacity, the family business from Bramsche (Germany) invested this year not only in a Broshuis 6-axle semi low loader with ramps but also in a 2+4 dolly low loader combination. These robust yet lightweight trailers offer maximum stability and ease of use, exactly what Dallmann needs for heavy work on construction sites.
Semi low loader with optimal load capacity
The combination of strength and ease of operation was decisive in choosing the air suspension, hydraulically steered 6-axle semi low loader. “We chose the 6-axle semi for its optimised load capacity of 63 tonnes,” says Horst Dallmann (owner). “The coupling pressure, axle load distribution and low tare weight can all be fully utilised. This makes the trailer suitable for heavy and large machines such as crawler excavators or milling machines like the Wirtgen W220 XFi. The trailer is deliberately slightly larger to be ready for future transports. Delivery time was also an important factor in our choice. Although we had no prior experience with Broshuis, everything went exactly as promised.”
During the customer-specific design, our engineers discovered that the trailer’s manoeuvrability could be further improved. Since the semi low loader is not extendable, the fifth axle was designed as a trailing axle rather than a rigid axle. After presenting this to the customer, this improvement was implemented. “Both the drivers and the workshop are very pleased with the improved turning circle,” adds Dallmann.
Investment for the future
The decision to invest in the 2+4 dolly low loader combination came from a desire to work efficiently and with a view to the future. “We paid a lot of attention to a good price-quality ratio, with value retention being a key consideration for us,” explains Dallmann. “The flexibility offered by the adjustable length and various deck heights is crucial for maximising load capacity.” Together with workshop manager Markus Husslig, the trailer dimensions were carefully tailored so that the trailer fits perfectly with Dallmann’s fleet.
The proven Broshuis pendular axles are one of the major advantages of this new trailer. “The large stroke of 600 mm is very important for us. The chassis configuration now provides a fully continuous, wide crane arm recess. Thanks to the slim, optimised construction and the integrated lines in the pendular arm, I expect less damage and wear to tyres, hoses and bearings,” says workshop manager Markus Husslig. The 2+4 dolly low loader combination has already transported several heavy loads without issues. The combination remains remarkably stable and manoeuvrable, key attributes for operating in tight spaces on construction sites.
Ease of use and safety
The fully remote-controlled steering on both the semi and the dolly low loader provides extra safety, comfort and ease of use. “We are satisfied, although we do not yet have long-term experience with Broshuis trailers,” says Dallmann. “The trailers are extremely user-friendly. With the radio remote control, a driver can manoeuvre them independently and safely, even under difficult conditions. Even the dolly low loader remains manoeuvrable and easy to control despite its size.”
A well-considered choice
Not only the technology but also the collaboration was decisive when purchasing. Husslig emphasises: “Expert advice, service and parts availability played a major role.” Dallmann also reflects on a careful and intensive process: “Initially the price was still an important factor. During a factory visit in Kampen it became clear that Broshuis not only delivers high-quality technology but also a partnership on an equal level,” he says. “Because our trailers are used over many years, durability and ease of use are essential for us.”
