Single or double extendable, what is the difference?
Below you will find a comparison between the single and double extendable platform trailer...
It is often thought that the only difference between a single and double extendable flat trailer is the length. This is partly true. However, in practice there are a number of other issues involved. We have included a lightweight flat trailer in the assortment because it often appears that the tare weight is one of the most important factors.
The first step in determining which flat trailer suits your cargo the best is often looking at the extendability.
The length of the load often determines how many times the trailer must be able to extend.
Below you can see how many meters a flat trailer can be extended as well as the number of the total maximum length that the platform trailer will be after extending.
|Number of times extendable||Length extendable||Maximum length extended|
|Lightweight 1x||7,5 meter||21,0 meter|
|1x||7,5 meter||21,0 meter|
|2x||15,4 meter||28,9 meter|
If a trailer can be extended multiple times, it means that several side raves (uitschuifbalken) are being used. This makes the trailer heavier. It is therefore important to keep an eye on the total combination weight and the payload when choosing a trailer. Below is shown what the tare weight per trailer would be when choosing the extendability.
TARE WEIGHT AND LOAD CAPACITY
|Number of times extendable||Length extendable||Maximum length extended||Tare weight||Load capacity|
|Lightweight 1x||7,5 meter||21,0 meter||8,4 tons||36,6 tons|
|1x||7,5 meter||21,0 meter||11,5 tons||41,0 tons|
|2x||15,4 meter||28,9 meter||12,3 tons||40,2 tons|
* Tonnages are indication numbers and depend on the implementation
The lightweight flat trailer has the lowest payload. However, this is not completely true. The lightweight flat trailer is designed so you can drive without permit. This means that the trailer including load must remain within the legally applicable combination weight (40 tonnes Germany / 50 tonnes in the Netherlands). That is why the trailer is equipped with a 9-tonnes axle with a single assembly. Despite the fact that the trailer may load less because of this, the useful load capacity can load exactly within the legal weight combination. This saves you on the purchase price and on the costs of the exemptions.
LOAD FLOOR HEIGHT
Most flat trailers have a loading floor height between 1,400 and 1,450 mm. If most of the loads are too high, a variant with smaller tires is available. This reduces the floor height by 210 mm. If you opt for a lower variant, this is at the expense of the useful load capacity. Hereby you have to take into account that you can load less 4.5 tonnes.
