Brand new combination
Today, Adrian Beltz, driver at Twan Bierings Transport B.V. (Maarheeze, NL), is transporting a Volvo EC700 from Marknesse to Rotterdam. For this transport, he is using his new 2+4 dolly lowloader in combination with the new Mercedes-Benz Actros SLT 8x4 heavy-duty transport tractor unit!
Adrian's day begins with preparations for the first transport of the dolly low loader combination, also known as the DDC. They collected the trailer on 30th August. Adrian explains, "Today is the first time we're actually using the trailer, but we're already very pleased with how it was delivered!" His first load awaits in Rotterdam – a CAT 352 FXE, ready to be transported to Marknesse.
“We were able to load the machine easily onto the completely flat loading floor, making the process quick and efficient. What’s great about this low loader is that it can handle loads suited for both the central beam and the bed. After loading, we were able to set off swiftly for our first trip. The DDC followed the Mercedes smoothly, and with the remote control, we could even access the most difficult spots. After a journey of just over two hours, we arrived in Marknesse. Once the machine was unloaded, we immediately picked up a Volvo EC700 for the return to Rotterdam, ensuring we minimise unnecessary empty runs,” explains Adrian.
“The Volvo needs to be loaded onto the central beam bed due to its height and weight, and this trailer is perfect for that,” says Adrian. Since the previous machine was on the wide bed, all the support mattrasses first need to be removed. Additionally, the widening supports have to be folded in so the Volvo can be driven onto the bed. “The challenge is to load the machine as practically as possible, while carefully considering the height and weight distribution.” Adrian carefully drives the Volvo onto the trailer, lowering the arm into the crane arm recess. Thanks to the trailer’s wide boom recess, this goes smoothly. Once the Volvo is securely in place, the truck and dolly are coupled. This process is not only easy but also incredibly safe, thanks to the remote control and the Hatz diesel generator.
Once the truck is coupled, it's important to properly secure the load. “With this type of trailer, you always need to position the load correctly for optimal weight distribution. It’s great when the trailer is equipped with plenty of lashing points! It means I can always secure the machine as best as possible.” After loading, we head off, escorted, back to Rotterdam—same route, but this time with the central beam bed low loader!
After the transport, Adrian shares, "I'm really pleased with how the day went. It was my first time driving both the new trailer and the new truck, and they make an incredibly smooth combination. The truck and trailer are perfectly matched! Thanks to the instructions I received when picking up the trailer, and my previous experience with Broshuis, everything went exactly as expected!”
Why was this trailer chosen?
There was a need for an additional 2+4 dolly low loader combination, as the loads are becoming increasingly heavier and taller. Due to the wide variety of heavy machinery, a trailer with a central beam bed and support mattrasses was selected, enhancing its multifunctional use. Additionally, there was a desire to replace an older 2+4 low loader, resulting in the purchase of two identical vehicles. This simplifies the permit application process.
"We have around 20 Broshuis trailers, and we are very satisfied with them," says Twan Bierings, the owner. "Quality and ease of operation are aspects we truly appreciate. In addition, we have an excellent relationship with Broshuis, and there's a lot of mutual trust."
