Kees Koopman Transport BV is a family business from Noord-Holland, specialized in construction related transport. What started in 1999 with a single truck-mounted crane has grown into a versatile logistics service provider with an impressive fleet, including 24 crane combinations. Now under the leadership of the second generation, the company continues to develop and invest in smart, well-designed equipment, such as the Broshuis 2-axle semi low loader for use behind a crane truck, operated almost daily by driver Mike van Herk.
The choice for Broshuis was mainly driven by the proven quality and the team’s proactive support. “The reliable quality of Broshuis, combined with the input from Frank van Niekerk and the design engineers, made the difference for us. They immediately designed a trailer that perfectly fits our work,” says Mike.
The 2-axle semi low loader is used for a wide range of tasks within the company. “We basically transport anything that doesn’t fit on a standard truck,” he says enthusiastically. “From machines and 20- or 40-ft containers to 16-meter dormers, 23-meter pipes, and cold room doors of 9 by 5 meters. Thanks to the custom-made boat supports, I can even transport boats with ease.”
Smart design and outstanding usability
The trailer has become a true essential within the fleet. “You only realize what makes this trailer so great when you don’t have it for a day,” Mike says with a smile. “Its manoeuvrability is a real advantage, especially since we often deliver in cities and residential areas. It’s crucial that the trailer steers well and is easy to control when needed. That is where the radio remote control comes in handy. This combination can access places where even garbage trucks struggle to get in!”
The 2-axle semi low loader fits within the legal combination length of 16.5 meters, something that is very important to mike: “We often carry divisible loads. With the crane truck, a longer trailer wouldn’t be allowed under current permit regulations.”
Safety also plays a big role. “Almost any load can be properly and safely secured thanks to the many lashing eyes and stake pockets. The trailer is compact but can be extended up to 19.8 meters using a double extension beam. You never have to switch trailers for longer loads, and that works perfectly!”
Smart details make the difference
Every detail of the trailer’s design has been carefully thought out, resulting in clever features that make the job easier. “At the front headboard there’s a rack where I can easily store different stake sizes when they’re not in use. The extra-wide stakes box running across the full width of the trailer lets me neatly store my long 2.4-meter stakes, timber blocks, rubber mats, and other materials,” Mike explains. “We also have two loading tables to fill in the load floor, one of which is fitted with twistlocks so I can load a 40 ft container on the gooseneck. For the tapered rear, a custom insert was made so that when needed, the load floor runs straight to the end, allowing you to use every loading meter. Remove the insert with four bolts, and you get a gentle ramp for easily driving a machine on from the back. Everything has been carefully considered by Broshuis and by us, and that just makes working with this trailer so much easier,” Mike concludes.
We would like to thank Kees Koopman Transport BV and driver Mike van Herk for their trust and great cooperation. It’s fantastic to see how our semi low loader contributes to their work every day. We wish them many more safe and successful kilometres ahead.
