At van der Vlist, everything revolves around special and heavy transport. Founded in 1930, this family-owned company has grown into a European specialist in transporting oversized and heavy loads. For this type of work, the right trailer makes all the difference. The 3-axle Broshuis semi low loader with ECO ramp and wheel well fits these requirements perfectly: reliable, well thought-out, multifunctional, and built for intensive daily use.
Proud of the combination
Timo van Muijlwijk has been working as a driver at van der Vlist for four years. Transport runs in his blood; his father also drove for many years and still works at the company. Timo operates a fixed combination: a Volvo tractor unit with a 3-axle Broshuis semi low loader equipped with wheel wells and an ECO ramp. “I’m very proud of this combination and take great care of it.”
Every day, he transports construction equipment such as cranes, dumpers, and wheel loaders. His favorite load? “Definitely wheel loaders.” According to Timo, they are not only easy to load but also highlight what his trailer does best. Thanks to the ECO ramp, he can drive the machines onto the trailer smoothly and in a controlled manner. The many lashing eyes give him the flexibility to position each machine precisely and secure it properly, providing confidence on the road.
Stable and well-designed transport
Recently, Timo handled a transport from the port of Zeebrugge to Antwerp, carrying a brand-new Terex Colt 1600 screening plant measuring 14.5 meters in length. An impressive machine, but exactly the type of load his semi low loader is designed for. By cleverly combining the ECO ramp with foldable supports and a separate aluminum loading ramp, he creates a safer, longer, and less steep loading angle. This allows him to load the machine onto the trailer in a controlled way.
The 2.75-meter-wide platform provides ample space for the machine to move onto the trailer in a stable and straight line. Thanks to the low neck, he can position the load far forward. “This means I don’t have to extend as much, keeping the combination compact and stable,” Timo explains. “This load also has the advantage that it can be supported on the neck, making the whole setup even more stable and improving weight distribution. With a brand-new machine, you want a small turning radius so you can take corners smoothly and avoid damage to both the machine and your own equipment.”
Always welcome
When asked about possible improvements, Timo has to think for a moment. “Not really. A locking system on the sliding bolster could sometimes be useful for different wheelbases, but it’s not a major issue.” What stands out most is his positive experience with Broshuis. The personal contact, dedicated service, and short communication lines make the difference. “You really feel welcome. I also hope to attend Truckstar again this year with a few colleagues, together with Broshuis. It’s always a great event and a nice opportunity to catch up with others in the industry in a different setting.”
We would like to thank Timo for sharing his story and wish him and van der Vlist many more safe kilometers ahead!
